There is something wonderful about getting away from our busy lives and taking a slower pace, surrounded by beauty and sharing Tai Chi with great people. Last year I taught two retreat-style workshops in beautiful locations: one at a mountain retreat center in Boone, NC and the other in Sedona, AZ at a Taoist retreat center.
After these retreats, my wife and I spent a week at Edisto Island, a favorite vacation spot in South Carolina. We have been there several times and love the quietness of this tiny island that manages to keep out the glitz and bustle of more commercialized resort areas. With Boone and Sedona in mind, I made it my mission to find a venue on the island where I could host a retreat in my own favorite place in the world. I found a perfect auditorium at the town hall and began planning this October's "Tai Chi at the Beach" retreat.
Won't you come and join me? We'll spend 5 leisurely days, October 5 to 9 focusing on Sun Style Tai Chi, beginning by exploring the depth of Tai Chi for Arthritis and then going deeper toward Sun 73. (See full description plus updates) There are beach houses you can rent. Some sleep 12 and some are small, just for two, and everything in between. You can come with family or tai chi friends and share the cost of a house on the water. Or search for amazing bargains a few streets off the beach. We stayed in a bungalow on the golf course, and it was great. It's a small, skinny island so it's hard to be more than walking distance from either the sound or the beach. Bring your bike or rent one. Plan to hike or swim or just relax. Edisto is known for nesting sea turtles and we got to watch two nests hatch and run to the ocean. And, there will be time for Tai Chi training too!
